New Mexico State University Art Gallery appoints new director

The New Mexico State University Art Gallery has appointed curator, archivist, librarian and photo educator Mary Anne Redding as its new director beginning Aug. 1.



Mary Anne Redding has been appointed as the new director of New Mexico State University's Art Gallery.

was the executive director of The Light Factory, a non-profit visual arts organization in Charlotte, N.C., that encourages awareness, understanding and appreciation of light-generated media, for two years before accepting the position at New Mexico State. There she collaborated with artists, educators, historians, critics and others on projects that promoted historical and current issues and trends in photographic arts.


Redding worked as a librarian and archivist at the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, Ariz., and at the Arizona Historical Society in Tempe, Ariz. At the Photography Department at the Art Institute of Chicago, she was a photo cataloger. She was also gallery director at the Northlight Gallery at Arizona State University.

Redding has a Master of Arts in arts administration from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and a Master of Library Science from the University of Illinois. She has an advanced certificate in museum studies from Arizona State University and selected course work from the Duke University certificate program in nonprofit management.
