NMSU's Air Force ROTC receives prestigious award

New Mexico State University's Air Force ROTC Detachment 505 was awarded the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award (AFOEA) for 1998. Only 12 out of 143 university ROTC programs in the national received this award.

NMSU's Detachment 505 was recognized for achieving the highest numbers in enrollment and retention, commissioning more new officers than expected, gaining extraordinary numbers of national cadet awards and for being a leader in minority representation nationwide.

The AFOEA was given by U.S. Air Force Gen. Lloyd W. Newton through Air Education and Training Command, one of the nine major commands in the Air Force.

NMSU's 1996-1998 Detachment 505 staff will receive distinctive blue, white and red-striped ribbons to be worn on their uniforms with other medals or decorations they have earned throughout their careers. Detachment 505 also will receive a cloth ribbon, called a streamer, to be attached to the unit flag standard carried by the unit color guard during parades or other ceremonies.
