Children's Theatre Workshop finishes with performance of "Puss N. Boots"

The Children's Theatre Workshop, directed by New Mexico State University theater department head Ruth Cantrell, will perform "Puss N. Boots" at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at the Hershel Zohn Theatre.

Young actors (left to right) Ellen Weinstein as Puss N. Boots, Nathan Zakahi as the Duke of Wessex and Megan McNelis as Gertie Goose Fowler portray a scene from the play "Puss N. Boots," which they learned during the three-week Children's Theatre Workshop

The workshop, in its 18th year, has given children ages 6-14 a chance to experience theater, Cantrell said. "Puss N. Boots" tells the story of Robert, Duke of Wessex, played by Nathan Zakahi, whose kingdom is taken over by an evil ogre played by Israel Chavez. With the help of Puss N. Boots (Ellen Weinstein), Gertie Goose Fowler (Megan McNelis), Rooster McDoogle (R. Dylan Thompson) and General Horatio T. Horseby (Jameson Mott) the ogre is defeated and Robert wins the hand of the Lady Louise (Kalyn Conway).

When asked her favorite part of the workshop, McNelis said, "I liked the whole thing."

Other cast members include Megan Thompson, Billy Zimmerman, Robby Zimmerman, Matt Francia, Estefano Vargas, Molly Wells, Lily Satski, Kristen Romney, Becky Keller, Julie Keller, Hallie Keller, Sarah Hudgins and Jordan Crane.

The performance is free and open to the public. For more information call the Hershel Zohn Theatre Box Office at (505) 646-4517.
