NMSU Keyboard Concert Series to open at NMSU

German pianist Trefor Smith will open the 2004-05 Keyboard Concert Series at New Mexico State University at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, in the Music Center Recital Hall.

Smith will perform Haydn's Sonata Hob. XVI/49 in E Flat Major; Beethoven's variations on "God Save the Queen" and the "Pathetique" sonata; three of Debussy's most popular preludes; Chopin's Nocturne Op. 32, No. 1 in B Major, 3 Mazurkas, Op. 7; and the "Legend of St. Francis of Paola Walking on the Waves" by Franz Liszt.

Smith, a professor of piano at the Musikhochschule in Hamburg, Germany, has made numerous recordings for radio and CDs. He has performed in many different countries, including Poland, Russia, India, Turkey and the United States.

Smith has studied under Wilhelm Kempff, Paul Badura-Skoda, Hans Leygraf and Vlado Perlemuter. He studied music and composition at Aberdeen University, Liverpool University, the Royal Manchester College of Music in England and the Musikhochschule in Hamburg.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. They are available at the Pan American Center Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets.
