NMSU theater department to present guest production "Ladder to the Moon"

The New Mexico State University Department of Theatre Arts and the American Southwest Theatre Company (ASTC) will present a guest production of "Ladder to the Moon" Oct. 21-23 at the Hershel Zohn Theatre on the NMSU campus.

to the Moon," part of Creede Repertory Theatre's Young Audience Outreach Tour, is the story of the relationship between a painter and a young artist. The painter is a mysterious woman who takes her young neighbor girl on a beautiful journey through the paintings of Georgia O'Keeffe.

O'Keeffe's paintings come to life with images and stories to remind the characters and the audience about the power and importance of imagination.

Eventually, the young girl discovers how to put family troubles aside and excel as an artist, and the mysterious woman, possibly O'Keeffe herself, learns her own lessons in patience, generosity and the importance of her work.

Charlie Oates, professor at the University of California-San Diego, wrote the play with the help of his 10-year-old daughter, Raikai Keefe-Oates. His other work has been performed throughout the United States, Canada, Ireland, Switzerland, New Zealand, the Czech Republic, Australia and Mexico.

Tickets for "Ladder to the Moon" are $4 for children and students and $5 for adults. Performances on Oct. 21 and 22 will be at 7 p.m. and the performance on Oct. 23 will be at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on the day of the performance.
