New Mexico law enforcement officials to learn new ways to fight prescription drug abuse at NMSU campus seminar

Federal, state and local law enforcement officials from throughout New Mexico and parts of Texas will learn how to spot emerging trends of illegal trafficking and abuse of prescription drugs in an all-day seminar on the New Mexico State University campus. They also will learn how to fight the spread of pharmacy break-ins and robberies.

inar will take place from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 21, in the NMSU Corbett Center Student Senate Chambers.

Law enforcement officers will learn how to identify phony prescriptions, improve patient access to pain medicines and work with other law enforcement agencies in reporting pharmacy robberies and identifying suspects.

The session also will highlight a data collection system to help law enforcement collect, analyze and disseminate pharmacy theft information to help protect pharmacists, guard against potential robberies and burglaries and help law enforcement arrest and prosecute criminals.
