NMSU's MBA program offers finance specialization

Graduate students pursuing a Master of Business Administration at New Mexico State University now have the option to obtain a specialization in finance to supplement that degree.

Graduate School approved the specialization, which will require graduate students to take three prescribed finance courses in addition to the 36 required credits in the MBA program.

"The specialization will be a value added to the students who want jobs in banking, stock brokerage and investments," said Lizbeth Ellis, head of NMSU's finance department.

While specializing in finance, students will have the opportunity to evaluate potential investments, manage portfolios and work with an actual fixed-income investment fund of the State of New Mexico.

"The hands-on courses offered are what make this finance specialization unique," said Harikumar Sankaran, an associate professor of finance. "Working with the fund also will help students find jobs in New Mexico when they graduate."

The specialization option started spring 2006. For more information, contact the NMSU finance department at (505) 646-3201.
