NMSU ART GALLERY PRESENTS ANNUAL STUDENT SHOW


The New Mexico State University Art Gallery will present its annual student show with an opening reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 10. Awards will be announced at 6 p.m.

The student exhibition is a juried show. Kate Bonansinga, this year's juror, will select which works will be included in the show and which will receive the awards. Bonansinga is the director of UTEP's Stanlee and Gerald Rubin Center for the Visual Arts.

NMSU HOSTS WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH EVENTS

The Women Studies Program at New Mexico State University will sponsor several events in celebration of Women's History Month.

The "Re-dressing Injustice" workshop will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 11, at the Court Youth Center, 402 W. Court Ave. Those who attend will create dresses with Arizona State University artist Irene Simmons. The dresses will be used as part of a public exhibit later in the month during the J. Paul Taylor Social Justice Symposium.

The panel discussion "Women during the Wars: Workers, Warriors and Wives" will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, at the University Terrace Good Samaritan Village, 3025 Terrace Drive. Veterans and active duty women of the U.S. Armed Forces will join the panel to speak about their contributions to the military during war time.

NMSU PROFESSOR TO TALK ABOUT FUTURE OF JAZZ AND CLASSICAL MUSIC

New Mexico State University music professor James Shearer will present "Frank Zappa was Right! Perspectives on the Future of Jazz and Classical Music" at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, in Science Hall room 107 on the NMSU campus.

The presentation is sponsored by NMSU's College of Arts and Sciences as part of its spring 2006 colloquium events. For more information call (505) 646-5282.


CAPOIERA DE LAS CRUCES TO HOST "NOCHE DE CARNAVAL"

New Mexico State University organization Capoiera de Las Cruces will host "Noche de Carnaval" from 8 to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 18, in NMSU's Corbett Center Auditorium.

Members of the organization will present various dance styles including samba, salsa, flamenco, mixed martial arts and capoeira - an Afro-Brazilian martial arts dance.
