'Real World' cast members to speak on diversity

Cast members from the MTV reality show "The Real World" will give a diversity lecture at New Mexico State University at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 20, in Hardman Hall Room 106.

d Svetlana from "The Real World: Key West" and Nehemiah from "The Real World: Austin" will discuss their backgrounds and perspectives on diversity. The lecture will be followed by question-and-answer and meet-and-greet sessions.

"Basically, if you bring in an unknown person to speak about diversity, no one will show up, but by bringing in 'Real World' people, hopefully more people will attend and more people will get the message," said Marc Marcuse of Reel Management, who represents "The Real World."

The cast members have very different ideas about gender, race and other issues tied to diversity, which should make for an interesting event, Marcuse said. The purpose of the lecture, however, is not to entertain as much as it is to inform and educate.

The event is sponsored by the Associated Students at New Mexico State University and there is no admission charge. For more information contact Mark Morris, director of activities for ASNMSU, at (505) 646-4415 or mmorris@nmsu.edu.
