X PRIZE Foundation to hold grand opening at NMSU location

The X PRIZE Foundation is opening a permanent office in the Sugerman Space Grant building, 3050 Knox St. on the main campus of New Mexico State University. A grand opening celebration will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Friday, May 12.

ice will house Josh Neubert, X Prize community and events coordinator who will conduct local X PRIZE Foundation business related to the 2006 X PRIZE Cup. Travis Dredd, deputy director of the X PRIZE Cup, will be at the celebration to update the community on the latest details for the X PRIZE Cup competition to be held Oct. 18-21 at the Las Cruces Airport.

NMSU's College of Engineering has taken the lead to encourage closer educational connections with the aerospace companies coming to the region as a result of the X PRIZE Cup. Many of the companies have long-term ties with the X PRIZE Foundation, an educational foundation set up by Peter H. Diamandis in 1996. The X PRIZE Foundation is the primary catalyst for the emergence of the entrepreneurial spirit behind the next race to space.

"NMSU is focusing its efforts in providing students and faculty educational opportunities including co-hosting the International Symposium on Personal Spaceflight during the X PRIZE Cup events in October," said Patricia Hynes, director of New Mexico Space Grant Consortium.

The celebration is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the public lots on campus. Please RSVP by May 8 to Joylynn Watkins at (505) 646-6414 or jwatkins@nmsu.edu.
