Upward Bound high school students will visit NMSU

High school students from across Dona Ana County will participate in the annual Upward Bound College Preparatory Program June 7 through July 16 at New Mexico State University.

Upward Bound is a federally-funded program that prepares and assists high school students who will be the first in their family to attend college. Students from all high school grades will be attending.

While at NMSU, the 50 students will attend self-development and career awareness programs, and take classes in math, science, language arts, foreign languages and computer science.

Upward Bound high school graduates who plan on attending NMSU also will participate in the Upward Bound Bridge Program, a program that allows students to attend NMSU summer classes tuition-free and receive academic advising. Approximately 18 students will attend the Bridge Program.

As many as 27 Dona Ana County Upward Bound students also will travel to colleges in Colorado, California, Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas to attend the more research-focused Math and Science Upward Bound Programs.
