NMSU journalism professor leads group at national seminar

New Mexico State University assistant journalism professor Beverly Merrick is serving as a faculty leader for the 16th Women as Leaders seminar May 16-29 at the Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars.

The theme of this year's seminar is "Women Leaders: A New Millennium of Leadership."

Merrick is leading a group of students from across the nation who will address such topics as technology in the workplace, developing a personal leadership style, balancing family and careers, and current gender issues in public policy.

Merrick has extensive research experience in media ethics, media history and women in the media. She received a Ph.D. from Ohio University in 1989, a master's degree in creative writing from Ohio in 1986, a women's studies certificate from Ohio in 1984, a master's degree in journalism from Marshall University in West Virginia in 1982, and a bachelor of arts degree in journalism and English from Marshall in 1980.
