Lecture topic: 'Tribal Sovereignty and Education'

David E. Wilkins, author from the Lumbee tribe, will speak on "Tribal Sovereignty and Education" as part of American Indian Week at New Mexico State University.


' lecture will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, in the Senate Chambers on the third floor of Corbett Center Student Union.

Wilkins is a professor at the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. His courses include Indigenous Peoples: A Global Perspective, American Indian Tribal Government and Politics, American Indian Political Economy and Indigenous Peoples and Nation-States.

Wilkins is a member of the American Indian Professoriate and the American Political Science Association. He has contributed articles to the New England Law Review, Kansas Journal of Law and Public Policy, Stanford Law and Policy Review and Wicazo Sa Review.

He also is the author of several books including "American Indian Politics and the American Political System," "American Indian Sovereignty and the U.S. Supreme Court: The Masking of Justice" and "Uneven Ground: American Indian Sovereignty and Federal Law."
