Miss Native American NMSU Pageant set for April 1

The Ninth Annual Miss Native American New Mexico State University Pageant will be held during American Indian Week at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, in the Corbett Center Auditorium.


5 Miss Native American will serve as an ambassador on behalf of Native American students at NMSU, assist with NMSU recruitment activities and meet with other representatives from New Mexico and other areas.

Miss Native American NMSU's travels and visitations will serve to increase the positive visibility of Native American people and introduce the public to various Native American cultures and topics, according to the NMSU American Indian Program office.

Contestants must be enrolled full time, have a GPA of 2.0 or higher and have verification of enrollment in a recognized Native American tribe. Contestants also must be single (never married) with no children and cannot hold any other crown or title during the 2005-06 school year.

Contestant packets may be picked up in the American Indian Programs office in Garcia Annex Room 136. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, March 28, in the AIP office. There will be a pageant orientation at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, in the Corbett Center Dona Ana Room. Pageant rehearsal will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 31, in the Corbett Center Auditorium.
