LAS CRUCES SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA TO PERFORM AT NMSU


Cruces Symphony Orchestra will present The Classical Mystery Tour - a Tribute to the Beatles at Aggie Memorial Stadium on Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. There will be fireworks after the show. Tickets are available at the Pan Am Center Ticket Office and all Ticketmaster outlets.

The Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra also will perform at the NMSU Music Center Recital Hall on Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 30 at 8 p.m. The performance will feature Sara Sant'Ambrogio on cello.

HERSHEL ZOHN THEATRE HOLDS SEPTEMBER EVENTS
The following events will take place at the Hershel Zohn Theatre in September:
? Two Donuts, a play in association with the Creede Repertory Theatre, will be held Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. and Sept. 2 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
? Two nationally renowned playwrights will present readings of their new work Sept. 15 and 16 at 8 p.m.
? Incorruptible, a play by Michael Hollinger, will run Sept. 29 - Oct. 8.

NMSU PROFESSOR WILL HOLD WORKSHOP ON SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION
On Sept. 7 from 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m., NMSU chemistry and biochemistry professor Glenn Kuehn will give a workshop in Milton Hall, room 50. He will speak about the Treisman-Style Supplemental Instruction, which is used to help greater numbers of students succeed in difficult courses.

LA SOCIEDAD PARA LAS ARTES TO PRESENT READINGS OF NMSU ALUMNI
Rob Wilder will be reading from his book "Daddy Needs a Drink" Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in room 106 of Hardman Hall on the NMSU campus. Wilder's book is a collection of essays from his monthly column in the Santa Fe Reporter in which he shares heartwarming and comic tales of raising a family. He earned his master's degree in creative writing from NMSU.

Henry Shukman will read on Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in room 106 of Hardman Hall. Shukman is an award-winning author who has published travel books, poem collections and story collections. He also earned his master's degree in creative writing from NMSU.

Both readings are free and open to the public.

UNIVERSITY MUSEUM PRESENTS SEPTEMBER EVENTS
The following exhibits will be on display in the NMSU Museum during the month of September:
? "Friends of the Family: Photographs from the Amador Family Collection" opens Sept. 12 and will run through Dec. 16. This exhibit features photographs taken by members of the prominent Amador family of Las Cruces during the early 20th century. It reveals a glimpse into the family's neighbors and activities.
? "New Mexico State University Memories: The First 30 Years" is on display until Dec. 16. Through photographs and artifacts, this exhibit provides an informative glimpse into life at NMSU during the late 19th century and early 20th century.
? "Pottery from the Americas" is a permanent exhibit of more than 600 prehistoric and historical Southwestern and Mesoamerican ceramics.

ASNMSU PRESENTS CULTURAL SERIES
New Mexico State University's Cultural Series will present jazz singing sensation Sophie Milman at 8 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the Rio Grande Theater and a performance by the Solonovski Bal Band on Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center Recital Hall.

RETENTION OF MINORITY STUDENTS IS SUBJECT OF SEPTEMBER SEMINAR
Cynda Clary from the Office of the Provost and Larry Torres from University New Mexico-Taos will conduct a seminar which will present research found at NMSU about the recruitment and retention issues faced by minority students. The seminar is Sept. 15 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
