Public invited to NMSU's annual Spanish-speaking conference

New Mexico State University invites the public to attend the 11th annual Conference on Teaching Spanish to Native Speakers July 22-23 at the Hilton de Las Cruces.


Tinajero will deliver the keynote address, "From Starfish to Eagles," at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, July 23. Tinajero was Texas State Teacher of the Year and a National Teacher of the Year Finalist 1995. He works with immigrant, Spanish-speaking children at Ramona Elementary School in El Paso.

The conference also will feature a tour of Mesilla with Chicana author Denise Chávez and lectures from faculty of colleges around the nation. Conference presenters are teachers and researchers from Las Cruces and across the nation. The conference will address topics ranging from characteristics of U.S. Spanish speakers to classroom methods for improving language skills.
