NMSU to present Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream"

New Mexico State University's Department of Theatre Arts and the American Southwest Theatre Company (ASTC) will present William Shakespeare's romantic comedy "A Midsummer Night's Dream" April 22 through May 1 at the Hershel Zohn Theatre on the NMSU campus.

comedy, young Hermia and her lover Lysander flee into the woods at night to escape an arranged marriage. They are pursued by the rival lover Demetrius, who is pursued into the woods by Helena, a young woman madly in love with him. There the young lovers encounter the mischievous Puck, a magical spirit of the woods, whose love potion creates comic chaos.

The play is directed by NMSU theater associate professor Tim Pinnow. Michael Wise, ASTC artistic director, is the stage manager and sound designer, and Ed Kruis is guest scenic designer. Costumes and lighting for the play were designed by NMSU theater students Crystal Herman and Ryan Bochkowski.

The cast is composed of NMSU theater students and guest faculty, including featured actors Emily Cross, Sean Darragh, Paul Gilbert, Rachel Huebner, Jessica Quintana and Jesus Villanueva.

"Bring the whole family to hear the poetry of William Shakespeare and enjoy a wonderful evening of laughter and lovers, fools and fairies, mischief and magic," said actor Paul Gilbert.
