New Mexico State University presents reading of "Such Stuff..."

The New Mexico State University Department of Theatre Arts will present a reading of "Such Stuff...," at 6 p.m. Monday, April 25, at the Hershel Zohn Theatre on the NMSU campus. The play was written by Ruth Cantrell, department head of Theatre Arts.

h Stuff...," the Shakespearean Players are in dire straits, having received funding from opposing companies Capital Cola and Monarch Soda. Ashford Wadsworth, artistic director of the Players, decides to keep both sponsorships in their performance of "Romeo and Juliet."

But when each company sends out a representative to see a performance, the Shakespearean Players struggle to keep both men apart and the show afloat.

"Ruth has written a play that's sure to delight audiences, and we're proud to present its first public reading in its journey from page to stage," said Tom Smith, assistant professor of theater.

There will be a brief talkback after the reading with the author.

"Such Stuff..." is part of the department's commitment to new work through its "Page-to-Stage" program. Cantrell's play "Riders" received its world premiere through the program in 2002.

The play includes some adult content.
