Memorial service Monday for NMSU's Bill Williamson

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Willard "Bill" Williamson, who died April 6 at the age of 66, will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, April 25, in the Corbett Center Auditorium at New Mexico State University.

A memorial program of about 30 minutes will be followed by an "open mic" opportunity for Williamson's friends and co-workers to share remembrances of him.

Williamson worked in various capacities in student services at NMSU between 1976 and 1990. He returned in 2003 as associate director of Corbett Center. He also served for a time as interim director of Black Programs.

A native of Nashville, Tenn., he graduated from Fisk University in 1964 after a three-year stint in the Army. He earned a master's degree in educational guidance and counseling at Tennessee State University in 1969.

A scholarship fund has been established in Williamson's honor. Donations to the Bill Williamson Memorial Scholarship Fund may be made at any Wells Fargo Bank. When the fund reaches the endowment level, it will be transferred to the NMSU Foundation.
