NMSU among top 25 in doctorates to Hispanics

New Mexico State University has been ranked among the top 25 U.S. colleges and universities in the number of doctorates awarded to Hispanics in 2003-2004.


arded 14 doctorates to Hispanics across numerous disciplines in that school year. The ranking appears in the July 14 issue of Black Issues in Higher Education. The magazine looked at the top100 producers of graduate and professional degrees across the country.

NMSU was ranked eighth in granting Hispanics doctorates in education. With seven students in that category, NMSU shared the ranking with Arizona State University.

In the physical sciences, NMSU awarded three doctorates to minority students, thus sharing 30th place with universities such as Johns Hopkins, Cornell and Howard.

NMSU also was recognized for the number of master's degrees earned by Hispanics in the social sciences and history. It shared 39th place with a number of institutions, including Texas A&M and Fordham universities, each of which awarded four such degrees.
