Director of NMSU health clinic elected to state post

Steven P. Gross, M.D., director of Employee Health Services at New Mexico State University, has been elected president of the New Mexico chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians. His term runs through July 1999.

Gross has been a family practice physician in Las Cruces since 1984 and a board officer of the New Mexico chapter of the AAFP since 1992. He joined NMSU in 1990 and opened Employee Health Services, a not-for-profit ambulatory clinic, in November of that year. The clinic is open to NMSU employees and dependents who are on the university's health plan.

The AAFP, a national, non-profit medical association founded in 1947, is one of the largest medical organizations in the United States. The association promotes and maintains high quality standards for family physicians and provides information and support for physicians and their patients. New Mexico joined the AAFP in 1949 and today has a physician membership of 650.
