NMSU Library historical calendar dedicated to Las Cruces

The Rio Grande Historical Collections of the New Mexico State University Library is offering its annual calendar, "Las Cruces and the Mesilla Valley," for sale. The calendar is dedicated to the Las Cruces area and its residents past and present.

of the calendar can be purchased for $5 each at the second-floor administrative offices of NMSU's Zuhl Library or the fourth-floor archives research room of the university's Branson Library.

Photographs in the calendar provide glimpses of the land and people of Las Cruces over the past 100 years. The images capture the complex and evolving bond between people and their natural environment.

The calendar shows a place of contradictions. Blessed with water, Las Cruces is also a city of drought. Las Cruces knows poverty, but it is also home to a university and an aspiring middle class. It is a place of informality, but it also upholds tradition and ritual generation after generation. It is a place for hard work as well as recreation.
