Aggie Video News Network launches Jan. 18

University Communications and Marketing Services is set to launch Aggie Video News Network (AVNN) on Thursday, Jan. 17, providing a new way for television stations in New Mexico and west Texas to get the latest news and information from New Mexico State University.

Via an online portal through the university's web page, AVNN will be providing video coverage of news events at NMSU. The launch coincides with the beginning of classes for the spring 2007 semester.

"New Mexico State University is sometimes considered 'out of the way' for daily news coverage by stations in El Paso and Albuquerque," said Maureen Howard, associate vice president for University Communications and Marketing Services. "Aggie Video News Network provides us with a new avenue to tell the public about the good work being done by the faculty, staff and students in the NMSU system."

By providing video coverage of university news events, AVNN is fulfilling its mission of a land-grant university by spotlighting efforts in education, research, extension education and public service.

"AVNN is another example of how NMSU continues its efforts to be one of the leading universities in the country in extension and outreach," Howard said.

AVNN is designed to provide local/regional content for newscasts from throughout the NMSU system. During times of breaking news, AVNN also will be a source of information, video and on-camera statements for broadcast television stations.

University Communications and Marketing Services will continue to expand NMSU's online presence both on its web site, www.nmsu.edu, and in other areas of the Internet. Details on these projects will be announced in the coming months.
