Applications being accepted for memorial scholarship

New Mexico State University students who have greatly contributed to enhancing the university's quality of life over the past year may now apply for the Roberts Memorial Student Awards. One endowment award for $2,000 and one for $1,000 are presented. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, March 9.

The awards were established by George and Bernice Roberts of Las Cruces in memory of their sons, Stephen and Robert Roberts. The two were killed in a Wyoming car accident in 1978. Stephen was a 1974 NMSU graduate and Robert was an NMSU student at the time of the accident.

Award applicants must be enrolled for at least six credit hours during the spring semester and be pursuing a degree on NMSU's main campus. They also must never have been under disciplinary sanction by the university and plan to enroll for the entire 2007-2008 academic year.

The application form must be accompanied by a resume, three letters of recommendation and a typed, one-page statement commenting on the candidate's contributions to the quality of life on campus.

Applications are available at student services, all deans' offices, ethnic programs offices, campus activities and residence hall front desks. Application announcements also have been distributed to student organizations on campus.
