NMSU Astronomy Department plans stargazing event Feb. 23 at campus observatory

New Mexico State University's Department of Astronomy will hold an open house at the campus observatory starting at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23.

Weather permitting, participants will observe the moon, the planet Saturn, the Orion Nebula, Open Cluster M35, Galaxies M81 and M82, and other astronomical objects.

Astronomy personnel on hand will be Chris Belczinski, the Tombaugh postdoctoral fellow in the department, and graduate students Joe Wellhouse, Allison Widhalm and Ryan Hamilton.

The Tombaugh Observatory on the NMSU campus is located east of Williams Avenue, near the running track. Admission is free and children are welcome.
