Hospitality students to seek jobs at career fair

Students in the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management at New Mexico State University can look forward to a plethora of employment opportunities at a career fair Thursday, Feb. 22.

The career fair, which will be held in the Corbett Center Student Union from 9 a.m. until noon, will emphasize jobs in the hospitality industry. The fair is an annual event sponsored by the School of HRTM for nearly 20 years.

"The career fair gives students an opportunity to actually meet people in the industry and gives them experience with interviews and recruiters," said Julie Correa, HRTM graduate assistant coordinating the fair.

Correa anticipates 40 businesses will attend, including Marriott, Red Lobster, Hyatt and MGM.

Prospective employers at the fair will primarily consist of lodging companies and restaurants. According to Correa, they will largely be seeking to fill management positions, but also will be hiring for summer employment and student interns.

Students of all majors and levels are encouraged to attend, especially those seeking hospitality-related jobs.

Correa advises students to dress professionally.
"It makes a positive impression on recruiters when students are dressed nicely," she said.
