NMSU librarian receives ACRL scholarship

New Mexico State University Library employee Melissa Van Dusen has been awarded a scholarship to attend the national conference of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), a division of the American Library Association.

The purpose of the scholarship is to provide opportunities for librarians with five or less years of post-master's degree experience to update their skills and knowledge by participating in an ACRL professional development experience. The scholarship includes a stipend of $250 and complimentary conference registration.

Van Dusen has been a temporary librarian in the Library's Reference and Research Services Department since August 2006. She received her master's degree in library science from the University of North Texas in August 2006.

The ACRL is a professional association of academic librarians and other interested individuals dedicated to enhancing the ability of academic library and information professionals to serve the information needs of the higher education community and to improve learning, teaching and research.

"Sailing into the Future: Charting our Destiny," the 13th national ACRL conference, will be held in Baltimore, Md., March 29-April 1. More than 250 peer-reviewed programs will address issues such as advocacy, assessment, collections, digital initiatives, information literacy and scholarly communication.
