Panel discussion on Middle East to be held

A panel discussion on the Middle East will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at New Mexico State University's Gerald Thomas Hall Auditorium.


on the Middle East: A Panel Discussion on Energy, Terrorism, the Environment and the Media" will explore U.S. policies in the Middle East, particularly regarding energy. Topics will include costs of various sources of energy, the environmental effects of energy sources, media coverage and political, military and strategic aspects of policies regarding the Middle East.

Panelists include Steven Pasternack, a journalism professor; Yosef Lapid, a government professor; Robert Foster, program manager for the Southwest Technology Development Institute; and Kevin Bixby, director of the Southwest Environmental Center.

"The purpose is to explore the potential for understanding and improving the likelihood of peace in the Middle East and the role of the United States in achieving that peace from the perspective of current energy policies," said Don Dearholt, a research professor in computer science and chair of the Southern New Mexico Group of the Sierra Club, which is co-sponsoring the discussion.
