Traveling theater company brings two plays to New Mexico State

The American Southwest Theatre Company (ASTC) and the New Mexico State University Department of Theatre Arts will present The Creede Repertory Theatre Touring Company in two productions Oct. 25-27 in the Hershel Zohn Theatre.

"Under Milkwood" is an account of a day in the life of a Welsh seaside town. The play was written just prior to author Dylan Thomas' death and exposes audience members to the poetry of the famous writer.

"Pecos Bill and the Ghost Stampede," a children's play, is a story based on the mythical figure Pecos Bill. Playwrite Eric Coble combines the cowboy hero with an original plot including lessons of honesty, responsibility and love of home.

The Creede Repertory Theatre is located in Creede, Colo., in the San Luis Valley. During the summer the company produces a full repertory of plays for locals and tourists alike. It was established in 1966 as an economic development project for the city of Creede, making it one of the oldest repertory companies in the country.

A five-actor company from the Creede Theatre will stop in Las Cruces as part of its 2002 Young Audience Outreach Tour. New Mexico State graduate Meghan Dickerson and Las Cruces resident Brandon Brown are featured in this year's touring company and will appear in both shows. New Mexico State Theatre Arts faculty member Tom Smith directed "Pecos Bill" in Creede this September.

"Under Milkwood" will play at 8 p.m. Oct. 26 and 2 p.m. Oct. 27. Tickets are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors and New Mexico State faculty and staff and $6 for students.

"Pecos Bill" will play at 6 p.m. Oct. 25 and 2 p.m. Oct. 26. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children.
