New Mexico State theater department to present musical comedy "She Loves Me"

The New Mexico State University Department of Theatre Arts and the American Southwest Theatre Company will present the musical comedy "She Loves Me" Nov. 29-Dec. 8 at the Hershel Zohn Theatre.

ves Me" is set in 1930s Europe and "is everything one could hope for in a holiday show," said Tom Smith, theater faculty member and play director. "It's a charming musical comedy and after seeing it you'll wonder why you don't know it better."

"She Loves Me" is about two feuding perfume shop clerks who secretly find solace in their anonymous romantic pens pals, not knowing their respective corespondents are each other. "She Loves Me" started out as a short story and was adapted into a play and then the movie "The Shop Around the Corner" starring Jimmy Stewart. It was later readapted as a play and updated to the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan film "You've Got Mail."

"It's a phenomenal story to translate so well and we're pulling out all the stops for this production," Smith said. "We have beautiful costumes, glorious sets, skilled and talented musicians, incredible choreography and a large cast of the best actors, singers and dancers in Las Cruces."

Smith said a sell out crowd is expected, so two additional performances have been added. For ticket prices, reservations or information, call the Hershel Zohn Theatre Box Office at (505) 646-4515 or (800) 525-ASTC.
