Spring theater auditions to be held at Hershel Zohn Theatre Jan. 11

The Department of Theatre Arts and the American Southwest Theatre Company (ASTC) will hold auditions for Spring 2003 productions from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Hershel Zohn Theatre.


women ages 16-65 are needed for the productions and can sign up for an audition slot Jan. 6-10 on the callboard in the Hershel Zohn Theatre.

Actors are asked to prepare a Shakespeare monologue or a contemporary monologue running no longer than 90 seconds. New Mexico State theater majors are asked to prepare both a Shakespeare monologue and a contemporary monologue running no longer than three minutes.

Two one-act plays, "Riders," by theater department head Ruth Cantrell and Julio Ortiz, and "The Beer Can Tree" by R. David Cox, will play Feb. 7-16. "Riders" is a new play based on the one-act tragedy "Riders to the Sea" by John M. Synge.

"Dinner with Friends," a Pulitzer Prize winning play by Donald Margulies, will be performed March 14-23. The roles of Tom, Beth and Karen have been pre-cast for this play.

The final production is Shakespeare's tragedy "Romeo and Juliet." It will play April 25-May 4.

All productions will be performed in the Hershel Zohn Theatre.
