New Mexico State University dedicates dance studio

New Mexico State University has honored Jose Tena, founder and artistic director of Ballet Folklorica de la Tierra del Encanto, by naming one of the university's dance studios the Jose Tena Studio.

s been a faculty member at New Mexico State since 1978. He directed the New Mexico State University Ballet Folklorico program for 10 years and currently teaches all the ballet folklorico courses in the dance program.

Ballet Folklorico de la Tierra del Encanto is a professional touring folklorico dance company based in Las Cruces.

Debra Knapp, assistant professor in the department of physical education, recreation and dance, said the room, formerly Studio 228, was dedicated to Tena because of his commitment to dance at the university and in the Las Cruces community.
