NMSU statement concerning facilities employees

An article in the May 10, 2007 Round Up regarding an ongoing investigation at the Office of Facilities and Services at New Mexico State University contained several factual errors.


Five individuals were placed on administrative leave during an ongoing investigation. The goal has been to conduct the investigation in as thorough, effective and efficient manner as possible.

As this is a personnel matter, the university cannot go into further details.

The student newspaper article said that Rich MacRorie, associate vice president of facilities for Planning, Physical Resources and University Relations, was put on leave because of reportedly misusing funds. That is not correct. MacRorie was placed on leave to ensure the investigation would be as effective as possible and has returned to work.

"Across NMSU we have excellent employees and this includes the folks at OFS," said President Michael Martin. "However, if accusations are made or when concerns are raised, we take our resource stewardship seriously and we investigate. That is what we are doing now. If and when anything of substance is revealed, we will inform the public. Until then, we will continue to conduct the business of the university and protect the reputation of the good people who serve it."
