4-H members to gather for state conference July 9-13

4-H members from across the state will meet July 9-13 in Las Cruces for the 84th Annual State 4-H Conference.

New Mexico State University will host the weeklong event, during which 4-H members will gather for contests, workshops, evening sessions and awards ceremonies. This year's theme is "Lights, Camera ... 4-H."

"The conference is going to be really exciting this year because of the workshops that are planned, such as the on-campus high-ropes course, and a tour at NASA," said Amy Zemler, 4-H activities specialist.

Participants will compete in a variety of contests, such as horse judging, livestock judging and public speaking. The winners of the contests will receive their awards during the evening sessions every night.

A talent show will be held on Wednesday, and those competing in the Fashion Magic contest will take part in a fashion show during the Wednesday evening session.

The keynote speaker is Sam Glenn, who will present his program "A Kick in the Attitudes" during the Monday night session. The program combines an inspirational message with an on-stage chalk art performance to help drive home the message. Glenn has authored 15 books on attitude, character and failure.

The NMSU 4-H program is dedicated to enabling youth to become productive, well-informed, self-reliant and responsible adults.
