New special events director comes to NMSU

Scott Breckner has been named the new director of the office of special events at New Mexico State University.

Breckner's most recent position was as executive director of the Breslin Events Center at Michigan State University, a 14,500 seat arena. Before that, he served as executive director of the SeaGate Conference and Academic Center at the University of Toledo in Ohio. During his career, he has been involved in the management of more than 400 major events.

"Scott was selected for this position because of his numerous years of professional experience and business relationships established in the areas of facilities management and event promotion," said Angela Throneberry, assistant vice president of auxiliary services at NMSU.

Breckner's duties include handling the booking and marketing for all events held at NMSU facilities, overseeing the university ticket office, serving as a liaison with the ASNMSU director of special events and managing the administrative, programmatic and operational aspects of the Pan American Center.

"I believe this position has great potential," Breckner said. "Not only in re-establishing both the Pan American Center and Aggie Stadium in the live entertainment/touring business, but in the possible role the facilities and programming can play in the future growth of the university."

Breckner said many new projects, like the convention center project in conjunction with the city of Las Cruces, are examples of "the spirit and vibrancy I sense toward the future."

"Without question this project will prove to be a tremendous asset to the university, the city and all of southwestern New Mexico," Breckner said.

Breckner also expressed interest in working with the student community.

"I look forward to the interaction with the student constituencies whom, in my brief time here, have demonstrated that they are a talented, focused group," Breckner said.
