Job opportunities offered at Career Expo 2007

New Mexico State University's Career Services and the NMSU College of Engineering will provide students with career opportunities at the 2007 Career Expo from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, and Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the Corbett Center Student Union Ballrooms.

Roseanne Bensley, the assistant director of Career Services, said the event is open to the public as well as college students from throughout the region. Students can expect about 188 employers to be at the Expo, which is a 23-year record for the event.

Bensley said the Expo is intended for all levels of students. Lower-level students can apply for internships and co-ops, while upper-level students can apply for professional jobs to begin their careers.

Sept. 18 will feature employers for the career fields of business, agriculture and liberal arts and sciences. Sept. 19 will focus on the career fields of engineering, science and technology.

Bensley said students are encouraged to go both days because 43 of the employers will be there both days. About 100 employers will be in attendance Sept. 18 and about 136 on Sept. 19.

"There is such a diverse population of employers this year that students will be able to find an employer representing each and every major," Bensley said.

Students should prepare by registering with Career Services at http://www.careerservices.nmsu.edu, researching an employer they are interested in prior to the Expo and dressing professionally for meeting with potential employers at the event.

"The fact that we broke the 23-year record is a reflection of the economy and the need for talent," said Steve Salway, director of Career Services. "We will have something for everyone."
