NMSU astronomy department plans stargazing event Sept. 21

New Mexico State University's Department of Astronomy will hold an open house at the campus observatory starting at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21.


Weather permitting, participants will observe the planet Jupiter, the first-quarter moon and star clusters of the Milky Way Galaxy.

Astronomy personnel on hand will be Nicole Vogt, associate professor of astronomy, and graduate students Roberto Avila, Doug Hoffman and Jeff Coughlin.

The Tombaugh Observatory on the NMSU campus is located east of Williams Avenue, near the running track. Admission is free and children are welcome.
