NMSU Theatre Arts and the ASTC present 'Reckless' by Craig Lucas

New Mexico State University's Department of Theatre Arts and the American Southwest Theatre Company will present "Reckless" by Craig Lucas Feb. 22 through March 2 at the Hershel Zohn Theatre on the NMSU campus. It is the fourth production of the 2007-2008 NMSU Theatre Arts/ASTC Season.

A surreal tragicomedy, "Reckless" tells the tale of Rachel, a housewife who learns her husband has hired a hit man to kill her. As she flees, her life takes a series of surprising and comic turns.

"The play grapples with the idea of people creating a new identity to hide from something in their past," said Tom Smith, director. "At the same time this may be the funniest and most touching play I've directed in quite some time."

Smith, veteran director and NMSU faculty member, leads an experienced production staff of NMSU faculty including Jim Billings as lighting designer and David Hereford as prop designer and technical director. NMSU students make up the majority of the production team, with Amy Archibeque designing costumes, Kyle Melton designing scenery, Michael Anderson designing make up, Laura Reyes providing the stage management and Jessica Kohn serving as assistant lighting designer.

The cast of "Reckless" showcases the talent of NMSU Theatre Arts students, including Sarah Vannest, Chris Rambicure, Ben Adams, Mandy Guitar, Sean Dolan, Seleena Hoban and Rebecca MacCullum. Smith said he is pleased to have "a really wonderful cast of strong character actors who really bring their roles to life."

"Reckless" is a wonderful and zany comedy that keeps everybody guessing as to what could possibly happen next. It's a little edgy, a little goofy and a whole lot of fun, Smith said.

Ticket prices vary from $10-$15 depending on performance dates. Call the ASTC box office at (575) 646-4515 or 1-800-646-ASTC for details.
