NMSU leaders honored in New Mexico Business Weekly

Four New Mexico State University leaders were chosen as Power Brokers by New Mexico Business Weekly and two were chosen for the publication's "40 Under 40" honor.

NMSU President Michael Martin, Executive Vice President and Provost William Flores, Business Dean Garrey Carruthers and former Board of Regents President Bob Gallagher were honored as power brokers. Juli Hutchins, Valencia County program director of the 4-H Extension Program, as well as Jonathan Benson, director of the Creative Media Institute for Film and Digital Arts, were honored in the "40 Under 40" category.

The four Power Brokers are among 120 New Mexicans included in NMBW's 2007 Power Book. Martin, Flores and Carruthers, who also is vice provost for economic development, were included in the Power Broker alumni education section.

"To be included with the very impressive list of New Mexico Power Brokers is a real honor," Martin said. "Clearly this reflects the fact that NMSU is an important and powerful force in the state's future."

Gallagher was included in the energy section. Besides being a member of the NMSU Board of Regents, he is president of the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association.

The 2007 Power Book was released in September and the NMSU leaders were honored at an event in Albuquerque.

Hutchins and Benson will be honored in the Oct. 20 issue of NMBW. The "40 Under 40" category honors individuals under 40 years of age who perform outreach and achieve professional accomplishments. Honorees are chosen by a selection committee.
