NMSU Astronomy Department plans stargazing event Oct. 20 at campus observatory

New Mexico State University's Department of Astronomy will hold an open house at the campus observatory starting at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20.

Weather permitting, participants will observe the Cat's Eye Nebula and the Lagoon Nebula. Several globular clusters also will be visible, such as M92, as well as the Wild Duck cluster.

Astronomy personnel on hand will be faculty member Chris Churchill and graduate students Glenn Kacprzak, Jessica Evans and Sean Lindsay.

The Tombaugh Observatory on the NMSU campus is located east of Williams Avenue, near the running track. Admission is free and children are welcome.
