Novice and junior 4-H members will meet for the Youth Get-Away, April 18-20 at the Inlow Baptist Camp in Torreon, N.M.
The theme of this year's get-away is "KATCM 4-H TV: Your Remote to the World." This is the first year members of the novice 9-11 age group will be allowed to attend the event.
"This year will be a new experience for everyone combining the novice and junior members in a camp setting. It will give both age groups an opportunity to master the skills taught in the workshops at the event," said Amy Zemler, 4-H activities specialist.
The state 4-H officers will hold workshops on decision making, self-image, responsibility and trust. Camp counselors will also lead groups and help with the activities.
An Amazing Race will be held on Saturday afternoon, in keeping with the theme of the event. Participants will also make collage cards for soldiers as a community service project.
Dances and crafts will be held both Friday and Saturday nights.
The New Mexico State University 4-H program is dedicated to providing opportunities for youth to develop leadership and communication skills, positive self-esteem and personal responsibility.
