NMSU music fundraiser to benefit student trip

The New Mexico State University Horn Choir, affectionately known as the NMSU Corno Crew, will hold a benefit concert and auction beginning at 6:30 p.m. April 29 at the NMSU Music Center

The students are attempting to raise $5,000 to attend the International Horn Society's (IHS) Symposium in Denver. They are one of 20 international horn ensembles invited to perform at the 40th anniversary of the International Horn Symposium. The hosts of IHS 40 are expecting more than 800 horn players from around the world.

The auction will begin at 6:30 in Room 103 in the Music Center. Items up for bid will include gift certificates to area music stores, salons and businesses, artwork, jewelry, a guitar, a bracelet from South Africa and a Colombian ruana, a type of poncho.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Center Recital Hall. The 14 members of the choir will play selections on the horn, popularly known as the French horn, including a tribute to celebrated composer Jerry Goldsmith, who died in 2004, a movement from Schumann's Symphony No. 3 "Rhenish" as well as a student composition.

An intermission during the concert will allow guests to enjoy refreshments and continue bidding on items.

The auction and concert are free and open to the public but donations are welcome. For more information contact Nancy Joy at (575) 646-1390 or njoy@nmsu.edu.
