Dasenbrock elected to Executive Council of Modern Language Association

Reed Dasenbrock, associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at New Mexico State University, has been elected to a four-year term on the Executive Council of the Modern Language Association.

The MLA, with more than 30,000 members, is the largest professional organization in the humanities. The Executive Council, consisting of 12 members and three MLA officers, is the governing board of the association.

Headquartered in New York City, the MLA provides programs for teachers of English, other modern languages, comparative literature and literary theory. The Executive Council administers a budget of about $6 million and guides the activities of the association.

Dasenbrock became associate dean and director of the Arts and Sciences Research Center at NMSU in January 1998, having served as head of the English department since 1994. He joined the NMSU faculty in 1981.

Dasenbrock has a doctorate and master's degree from Johns Hopkins University, a graduate degree from Oxford University in England and a bachelor's degree from McGill University in Canada, all in English.
