NMSU Astronomy Department plans stargazing event Nov. 24 at campus observatory

New Mexico State University's Department of Astronomy will hold an open house at the campus observatory starting at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24.

Weather permitting, participants will observe the first-quarter moon, the Orion Nebula, the Ring Nebula (remnants of a dying star), the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way.

Astronomy personnel on hand will be department head Jim Murphy and graduate students Tanya Tavenner and Daniel Ceverino.

The Tombaugh Observatory on the NMSU campus is located east of Williams Avenue, near the running track. Admission is free and children are welcome.
