NMSU horse judging team places in top five

The New Mexico State University horse judging team placed fifth overall at the American Quarter Horse Association World Show Collegiate Judging Contest in Oklahoma City, Okla., Nov. 19.

"Our team had a solid go in Oklahoma City. Their performance was a direct result of their continued hard work. A top five finish shows that we can compete with the best of them," said Jason Turner, associate professor and extension horse specialist.

Individually, Jacinda Hinkson, a senior from Matfield Green, Kan., placed second in performance judging, fourth in reasons and 15th in halter judging, earning her second place overall in the contest.

Arianne Wilbanks, a sophomore from Moriarty, N.M., received ninth overall individually, placing 12th in halter and 14th in performance.

Other team members include Kali Benson, a senior from Rio Rancho, N.M., Emily Hibbard, a junior from Kingman, Ariz., and Logan Potts, a junior from Texico, N.M.

"I am extremely proud of each and every one of these five students. They had to balance a lot of things inside and outside of the classroom to get the job done this semester," Turner said.
