"This is our third year of the event and each year it gets a little bigger," said Will Lofdahl, director of special events. "We're hoping over the course of time to make this a real mainstay for the community in the week between Christmas and New Year's Eve when there's really a void of things to do. So we're hoping that people like the renovations to the Pan American Center, that our remodeling makes the facility more comfortable, and that this will encourage even more people to come out to the Pan Am Center, not only for the Holiday Hoop-La, but for all of our events."

"It's something for the university, everybody working together," added Ernie Viramontes, athletics director of the Las Cruces Public Schools. "We do it for the kids."
