Professor from India to speak at Global Awareness luncheon

Alok Banerjee, a visiting professor in New Mexico State University's pysical education, recreation and dance department, will talk about "India Today: Population and Education" at a noon luncheon Tuesday, April 4, in Corbett Center's Dona Ana Room.

The speech is part of NMSU International Programs' Global Awareness luncheon program.

"Coming from one of the more densely populated areas of the developing world, Dr. Banerjee's insights about the educational challenges in India today promise to be enlightening," said Rick Powell of NMSU's physical education, recreation and dance department.

Banerjee is currently the education faculty dean at the University of Kalyani in West Bengal, India. He earned his graduate and postgraduate degrees from Calcutta University in sports performance and in the exercise sciences. Banerjee has been active in research with the Indian Sports Authority.

The luncheon will be a deli buffet and will cost $7.25 per person. Reservations should be made by Friday, March 31.
