College of Health and Social Services picks finalists for dean search

Four finalists have been chosen to possibly lead New Mexico State University's College of Health and Social Services (CHSS). The finalists will be on the NMSU campus to interview for the dean's position between Nov. 4 and 11.


"We are very excited about the pool of candidates we received, the past accomplishments of the finalists are truly impressive. This bodes very well for the future of the college." Said search committee chair, Greg Fant.
The four finalists and the day they interview are:

?Santos Hernandez, a professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Texas - Arlington, will interview Nov. 4.
?Luis Vazquez, associate dean, Graduate School at New Mexico State, will interview on Nov. 5.
?Tilayhun Adera, senior associate dean for Public Health at Virginia Commonwealth's School of Medicine, will interview on Nov. 6.
?Cheryl Easley, dean, College of Health and Social Welfare at the University of Alaska - Anchorage, will interview on Nov. 11.

The interview schedule for each candidate is:

8:30 - Coffee with academic deans - CHSS room 310

9:30 - Meeting with Interim Dean Higbie - CHSS room 310

10:30 - Meeting with dean's office staff - CHSS room 310

11:30 - Lunch with search committee - CHSS room 310

1:00 - Meeting with benefits office

1:30 - Campus tour

2:30 - Open forum with students - PSL Auditorium

3:30 - Open forum with faculty and staff - PSL Auditorium

5:30 - Reception - NMSU Golf Course Banquet Room - Faculty, staff and alumni

Those who participate in the interview process will have the opportunity to provide comments to the committee via the Web at www.nmsu.edu/hire. Once all candidates have interviewed, the search committee will compile a report to the provost indicating the strengths of each candidate as well as a summary of the Web comments. The goal is to give the provost an opportunity to make a final decision before the end of the semester.
