Generous gift creates creative media scholarship at NMSU

The Creative Media Institute in the College of Arts and Sciences at New Mexico State University has received a $50,000 donation from the estate of Michael Laurance to create the Michael Laurance Memorial Endowed Scholarship.

Michael Laurance was an active member of both the Las Cruces and NMSU communities, especially in the film and media world. His tireless efforts in both the CMI and the Creative Media Technologies program at Doņa Ana Community College were recognized throughout the state. His passion for photography and cinematography led him to a life of adventure and travel seldom seen these days.

The Michael Laurance Memorial Endowed Scholarship will fund the "capstone" film production for an outstanding senior in the Creative Media Institute. The funds will provide the budget to write, direct and produce the student's short film. This gift generously provides an opportunity for creative and hardworking young filmmakers to implement their talent and learn valuable production skills.

"NMSU, the College of Arts and Sciences and the CMI program would like to thank Sid Goddard, trustee of the estate, for all of his diligence and stewardship over the past months. His hard work has helped ensure the creation of this wonderful scholarship," said Scott Anderson, development officer with NMSU's College of Arts and Sciences.
