Successful NMSU graduate to give choreography workshop

New York choreographer and New Mexico State University graduate Meghan Dickerson will offer a dance workshop for children in 2nd through 6th grade at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at the NMSU Isabel M. Crouch Readers Theater, Speech Building.

The hour-long event is free of charge and parents are welcome to stay and participate.

Dickerson also has helped the NMSU theater department and Dona Ana Lyric Opera choreograph its upcoming production "Seussical."

"Meghan was one of our best and brightest theater students," said Tom Smith, theater department producing artistic director. "We're thrilled to bring her back as a guest artist to choreograph our joint production of 'Seussical' and delighted to have her reach out to the community this way."

The workshop will teach steps from the production's closing number, "Green Eggs and Ham," in the style of swing dance. Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably and be prepared to have a good time.

"Community outreach like this is vital," Smith said, "especially with the continued cuts in arts funding. NMSU Theatre Arts and Dona Ana Lyric Opera are both committed to community outreach and this is one way in which we can enrich the current arts offerings to local children."

For more information about the workshop or to purchase tickets to "Seussical," call (505) 646-4515.
